Some say aluminum is the metal of the future; and with good reason. Extruded aluminum profiles are everywhere, and they are growing increasingly popular as more industries discover their benefits. Aluminum is lightweight (only 30% of the weight of steel), strong, extremely malleable, does not rust or corrode, can be welded, riveted, bonded and bolted, is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity (and lighter than copper), is non-magnetic, can be finished in many different ways to enhance its appearance (painting, anodizing, coating) or to imitate steel, iron or wood, and is 100% recyclable.
Alloy 6061, in particular, is superior for structural applications due to its solid mechanical capabilities and superior weldability. After welding, the product will have less strength than before welding, but the material can be heat-treated and artificially aged again to restore its strength.
