How To Cut Extruded Aluminum Heat Sink

The aluminum heat sink has the characteristics of beautiful appearance, lightweight, good heat dissipation performance, and good energy-saving effect. The surface of the processed aluminum profile heat sink is anodized for surface treatment to increase the corrosion resistance, wear-resistance and appearance of the aluminum, facilitating their wide use in industries such as machinery, automobiles, wind power, construction machinery, air compressors, railway locomotives, and household appliances.


Then how to cut extruded aluminum heat sink? An aluminum cutting machine is a mechanical tool dedicated to the cutting of aluminum cutting with a circular saw blade mounted with a carbide blade and with a saw blade spindle speed of 2000-5000 rpm, which are applied in aluminum rods, aluminum sheets, aluminum tubes, and aluminum profiles cutting.
The manual cutting machine head can be turned left and right at 45 degrees and has poor cutting precision. It is suitable for aluminum door and window industry and aluminum cutting work with low precision requirements. A semi-automatic hydraulic aluminum cutting machine with a rough design uses oil pressure as the feed power and the saw blade makes parallel feed action. However, the cutting material has poor section precision when the cutting material size is usually large, which is suitable for aluminum roughing and cutting.

Fully automatic aluminum cutting machine, on the other hand, is suitable for small pieces of aluminum, large cutting capacity and precision cutting where mall pieces of aluminum can be cut in bundles with high efficiency.


In recent years, the innovation of laser technology has made people evaluate the advantages of laser-cut aluminum. The laser cutting can process consistent parts faster, which is more efficient than traditional processing and laser cutting technology will greatly reduce processing time and production costs. At present, laser cutting equipment capable of cutting aluminum plates on the market is divided into three categories, namely, a carbon dioxide laser cutting machine, a fiber laser cutting machine, and a lamp pump laser cutting machine. The carbon dioxide laser cutting machine has a carbon dioxide laser wavelength of 10.64 um, which is more easily absorbed by non-metals and can cut non-metallic materials such as wood, acrylic, PP, and plexiglass with high quality. However, when cutting high-reflection materials such as aluminum, copper, and silver, most of the energy is reflected and lost, which leads to a compromise in the practicality of the machine. Moreover, the photoelectric conversion rate of the CO2 laser is only about 10%. The replacement of liquid nitrogen, the consumption of electricity and the cooling system of the CO2 laser are huge, and the aluminum plate can only be cut to a thickness of 3mm, making most customers who cut aluminum plates discouraged.


Fiber laser cutting machine is a new type of fiber laser developed in the world. It saves space and gas consumption compared with carbon dioxide laser cutting machine. The wavelength of 1.06um is also more suitable for cutting metal materials. The fiber lasers currently on the market are mainly IPG continuous optical lasers, which are reliable but expensive, but there are very few laser manufacturers that can compete with them, which makes the price of the fiber laser machine always high. At the same time, if one of the fibers in the laser is damaged, the entire laser must be replaced, and such maintenance costs are also unresolved for the majority of customers.


In contrast, the YAG laser cutting machine is also a wavelength of 1.06um, which is very suitable for metal cutting. YAG laser technology is a mature laser technology that has been widely recognized and used by the international community. Its beam quality and pulsed laser characteristics are suitable for metal. The cutting process of the material has a high energy utilization rate. At the same time, the low cost of purchase and use has also made more and more customers rush.
